Course Summary

Welcome to the Saddle Hills Ultra—a challenging and beautiful adventure through the rugged foothills of northern Alberta. Each loop is approximately 20 kilometres and features a mix of gravel roads, equestrian trails, forest paths, and open ridgelines with sweeping views of the Saddle Hills.

Expect rolling terrain with long gradual climbs, short punchy hills, and fast, runnable descents. Trail markings will be clear, but this is remote country—carry your mandatory gear, stay alert, and be self-sufficient.

Relays

Saddle Hills 60K Relay: Teams of three; each runner completes one 20K lap. Tag off at the finish line.

Saddle Hills 40K Relay: Teams of two; each runner completes one 20K lap. Tag off at the finish line.

Elevation Gain

  • 20K loop: ~177 metres (581 ft)
  • 40K (2 loops): ~354 metres
  • 60K (3 loops): ~531 metres

Aid Stations

There will be two fully stocked aid stations: one at the halfway point (10K) and another at the start/finish area. Expect water, sports drink, cola, chips, fruit, gummies, gels, granola bars, and more.

Cutoff Times

The 60K event has a strict 9-hour cutoff. The finish line closes at 5:00 PM for all distances.

  • All runners must reach the 10K feed zone by 3:45 PM.
  • Anyone not at this point by 3:45 PM will be shuttled back to the finish for safety reasons.

Please plan your pace accordingly and respect the cutoff to ensure a safe, smooth event for everyone.
